Sleeping Later Reduces Stress

Did you know that sleeping later reduces stress. In a study of 42 people at the University of Westminster, London, people who woke up after 7:21 a.m. had lower blood levels of the stress hormone cortisol than those who woke up earlier.

This condition was true even if the people were waken up suddenly at a later time or went to bed later than usual. The best explanation is the body’s natural clock.

Relief for Hot Flashes

Menopausal women and those who are taking hormones suffer from hot flashes.  One effective relief for hot flashes is for women to take four tablespoons of soy powder a day to reduce the inconvenience hot flashes give.  Soy is rich in isoflavones which gives the benefit of estrogen in the all natural way.  Soy powder can be added to your cereal and everyday juices.

Grapefruit Juice and Sedatives

grapefruit-juiceStudies have shown that grapefruit juice helps the body’s absorption of certain sedatives and blood pressure drugs.  The research was done by Paul B. Watkins.  He is the director of the General Clinical Research Center of North Carolina School of Medicine.

If you happen to be already taking grapefruit juice with your medication, you can continue to do so.  But do not jump into grabbing a hold of a grapefruit juice with your current medication without first consulting with your medical practitioner.

Aspirin reduces the risk of colon cancer.  As good news as this may seem, it actually has to take a decade or more of taking aspirin at least two aspirin tablets per week to see the difference.  But if the intake is done on a regular basis for twenty years, the risk actually goes down to half.

Make sure to consult your physician and ask about aspirin and colon cancer before actually starting with this aspirin medication.

Write Your Stress Away

Do you know that instead of sulking in the corner, you can actually do something to write your nagging worries away — by writing.  Most often than not, problems come in two forms: the ones you can control and the others that are beyond your control.  Put one category in one column and the other on the other.

This will allow you to visualize the things you can find solutions and solve and the things that you are going to have to live with.  It activates your mind to think and actually plan something about the current things that stresses you.

Dog owners have the lowest heart rates and blood pressure when they are with their dogs.  One study even showed that heart rates proved to be lower than when the dog owners are with their respective spouses.

Be Safe as You Travel

We should always try to make trips as light and stress free as possible.  This is why it is important to know your destination and to get immunized, especially if you are visiting the tropics. There is a 24 hour hotiline that you can call and contact via cdc.gov that will give you the immunization requirements for those who will travel internationally.

Most often than not doctors recommend prophylactic drugs to avoid malaria if you are traveling to the tropics.  It is always better to be safe than sorry.
