Choose to Be Happy

smileyAbraham Lincoln said that “Most folks are about as happy as they choose to be.” It is true, happiness if a choice.  Your circumstance should not dictate your mood.   A conscious effort should be place to emphaise the positive and let fo of the not so good things that happen in life.  This will set you apart from those who choose to dwell on the negative and live a miserable life.

Choose to be happy everyday and before you know it becomes a habit. What’s neat about this is your happiness might just influence other people around you.

It is important to practice the skills that you have acquired through the years inspite of your busy schedule.  This will allow for you to be less stressed in the long run.  Majority will always find a reason to put off but if you try to do it a little at a time you will find that the first effort will be the hardest.  Even as you enjoy the skills that you have for years, you will find it fulfilling to give it time at least twice  week.

Slowing down.  The usual thing the finger points to is old age.  The thing is, as talent is used rarely, it gets harder for a person to do, unlike if you use your talent on a regular basis. Then that would be easily effortless.  To detoriorate is the natural tendency, when talent is not used.

When you practice your talent or whatever new skill you would like to acquire, gowth hormones are secreted by neurons that stimulates your brain to do what you want to do.

Use Your Talent, or Lose It

You choose to neglect your talent when you don’t use it.  Special skills and talents are developed through the years and just like an iron that is left to rust, talents do as easily.  It will be a greater challenge to restore them when you want to.  Our talents will naturally detoriorate when we don’t use them.

This is whyit is important to use whatever skill you have while you still can or risk losing it all together.

The key to having your advice taken to heart are these:

Make sure you understand where the person is coming from. Quit thinking of throwing in all the facts that you can give out to your counselee, but focus more on what the person’s problem is.  Listening is the key.  This wil spell out how the person will open up to you.  Encouragement for your counselee to discuss the problem in your own way.  Make sure that what your listener want is advice and not just a listening ear.  Otherwise, whatever it is you say will not be heard.  It will also help to evaluate yourself first, if you are equipped to help the person you are talking to.

The second thing to do after you have established your relationship with your counselee is to evaluate options and let them know each and everyone of them together with their pros and cons.   The option should come from him or her.  Inasmuch as you think that you know what he or she should be deciding on, the choice has got to come from the person who needs help.  That will be the third process. Letting him or her make the decision.

Giving Advice

Advice is a form of art.  To be an adviser, it is not enough that you know a lot of facts and be able to let your listener know what he or she needs to know.  Relationship should be built before breaking through the person you give advice to.  People give advice for a number of different reasons.

If you happen to do this professionally, then this might be a source of your income. But if not, then there should be more to giving advice than just being nosey.  A lot of times, it is because of concern.   Parents advice children, while superior advice subordinates.
